Marketo vs. HubSpot vs. Pardot vs. Eloqua – 5 Things That Decide ROI
Gartner’s 2025 survey found that enterprises use 49% of the capability in their martech stack. Martech now takes nearly 22% of total marketing spend. Most of that spend sits in one place, your marketing automation platform (MAP).
So when your team asks for a “Marketo vs HubSpot” comparison, ask a harder question first. Will we actually use what we buy?
This guide compares the four platforms as they stand in 2026. It also covers five things buyers miss that decide whether the money pays off.
Is There One Platform That Wins Overall?
Quick answer: No platform wins for every enterprise. Marketo Engage fits Adobe-centered teams with complex, global programs. HubSpot fits teams that want one CRM and marketing system and faster setup. Pardot, now called Marketing Cloud Account Engagement, fits Salesforce-first sales organizations. Eloqua fits Oracle shops with heavy governance needs. Your CRM, your data model and your team’s skills should decide it, not a feature checklist.
What changed in 2026?
Two analyst reports reset the conversation this year.
Forrester dropped “marketing automation” from the title. Its Q1 2026 Wave is called Revenue Marketing Platforms for B2B and scores 10 providers. Forrester says these platforms must match how buyers really buy, which means forming preferences early and acting as buying groups. A lead-and-score model was built for a single person filling out a form. Your buyers are now six to ten people, and several never touch your site.
Gartner’s September 2026 Magic Quadrant for B2B Marketing Automation Platforms lists 11 vendors. It highlights integrated suites, AI agents and consumption-based pricing as the shifts to watch. All four platforms in this article appear in Gartner’s evaluation. Please confirm each vendor’s quadrant position in the full report.
Five Things Enterprise Buyers Keep Missing
- They compare a product that isn’t the one being scored.
Adobe’s Forrester recognition covers a bundle. Forrester evaluated Adobe Journey Optimizer B2B Edition together with Marketo Engage, Real-Time CDP B2B Edition and Customer Journey Analytics B2B Edition. Marketo alone was not the thing scored. Salesforce’s story works the same way. Its strategy centers on unified data, AI and multicloud orchestration, which means Data Cloud and Agentforce, not only Account Engagement. When you read a “Leader” badge, ask which SKUs it covers and what they cost together.
- The AI agents often live in a different product than the one you run.
This catches many Eloqua and Pardot teams. Oracle announced role-based AI agents in Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications on February 10, 2026. Consultants who work with the product report that those agents are part of Fusion Marketing, not classic Eloqua. Oracle says its roadmap adds agents on top of existing campaigns, CRM integrations and governance models. Oracle’s own blog says it plans to connect AI Agent Studio with Eloqua, so ask which connections work today and which are planned.
Salesforce has a similar split. Partners note that Agentforce is a layer on the core platform and Data Cloud, not a feature inside classic Account Engagement. Adobe’s new orchestration product needs Marketo too. A community answer in March 2026 confirmed that you need Marketo licensed to run AJO B2B. Adobe has also introduced a lighter “Prime” option that connects to Marketo without requiring a Real-Time CDP. Ask each vendor for a written map of where each AI feature runs and what license it needs.
- Pricing is moving from seats to usage, and few budgets reflect it.
HubSpot is the clearest example. On April 14, 2026, HubSpot moved its Customer Agent and Prospecting Agent to outcome-based pricing. Published rates put a resolved customer conversation at about 50 credits, or roughly fifty cents. Plans include a monthly credit allowance of 500 on Starter, 3,000 on Professional and 5,000 on Enterprise, and credits reset monthly and do not roll over. Also, agents share one credit pool, so a looping workflow can starve other AI features.
Fifty cents sounds small. Multiply it by every conversation, every enriched record and every agent task across a global team. Then set a hard cap before the first month, not after the first invoice. Gartner’s own session description names consumption-based pricing as a market shift, so expect every vendor here to move the same way.
- Buying groups don’t fit a lead-based data model.
Most Marketo, Pardot and Eloqua instances were built around people and leads. Buying-group orchestration needs account and role data that many CRMs hold poorly. Adobe’s B2B journey product receives its data exclusively from Adobe Experience Platform and no longer shares a datastore with Marketo Engage. That is a real architecture change, and it means a data project, not a toggle. Oracle’s Fusion approach brings customer, account, transaction, service, product and buying-group data together. Whichever platform you pick, check how it models a buying group before you sign.
- Agents on dirty data just make dirty data faster.
Several partner guides on HubSpot’s Breeze agents say the same thing: poor CRM data produces poor agent output. I agree, and it matches what Gartner points to as the biggest utilization obstacle, the complexity and sprawl of existing marketing technology. A migration is the cheapest moment to fix field sprawl, duplicate records and dead scoring models. Most teams skip that and move the mess.
The Four Platforms Side By Side
| Adobe
Marketo Engage |
HubSpot | Pardot / Account Engagement (Salesforce) | Eloqua (Oracle) | |
| Best fit | Complex global programs, Adobe stack users | Teams wanting CRM and marketing in one system, quicker setup | Salesforce-first, sales-led organizations | Oracle Fusion shops, strict governance |
| Where the newest AI sits | Adobe Journey Optimizer B2B Edition, which needs a Marketo license | Breeze agents, credit-based | Agentforce and Data Cloud, adjacent to classic Account Engagement | Fusion Marketing and AI Agent Studio, with Eloqua links on the roadmap |
| Cost watch-out | Stacking Marketo, AJO and CDP licenses | Credits, seats and onboarding fees | Edition tiers and Data Cloud add-ons | Suite-level licensing and partner services |
| Data model risk | Lead-centric history, new buying-group architecture | Strong CRM unity, test depth for complex hierarchies | Tied to CRM account and contact structure | Strong governance, heavier admin load |
| Gartner 2026 MQ | Included (as Adobe) | Included | Included (as Salesforce) | Included (as Oracle) |
A few notes on the table. Salesforce renamed Pardot to Marketing Cloud Account Engagement in April 2022, but buyers and search engines still use “Pardot,” so use both terms. Oracle has not published an Eloqua end-of-life or an official move to Fusion Marketing, according to a specialist consultancy, so treat any claim that Eloqua is being retired as unverified until Oracle says so. Oracle also says its newest agents come at no additional cost within Fusion Applications, which is worth testing against your contract.
HubSpot deserves a fair test at enterprise scale. Its integrated CRM is a real advantage for speed and shared data. Where I would push hardest in a proof of concept is multi-business-unit governance, complex account hierarchies and sandbox controls. Those are the places where larger organizations most often outgrow a simpler platform.
A Scorecard That Reflects 2026
Use these weights as a starting point, then adjust them for your business. The weights are Marrina’s working framework, not an analyst benchmark.
| Criterion | Suggested weight | What to test |
| Fit with your CRM and data model | 20% | Live sync of accounts, buying-group roles and custom objects |
| Total cost with AI usage | 20% | Three-year cost with agents, credits, seats, data and partner fees |
| AI agent readiness and governance | 15% | Approval steps, audit logs, spend caps, outside-agent access |
| Buying-group and ABM support | 15% | Can you build, score and orchestrate a buying group without custom code |
| Skills you already own | 10% | Certified admins, partner bench, hiring market in your region |
| Reporting and attribution | 10% | Pipeline reporting that sales leadership will accept |
| Migration effort and exit terms | 10% | Asset count, integrations, data export rights, notice periods |
Run every vendor through the same three scripted scenarios from your own business. A script might be “route a ten-person buying group across two regions with consent rules.” Demos built on the vendor’s sample data tell you very little.
Migration Costs More Than The License
Moving platforms rarely goes wrong in the tool. It goes wrong in the inventory. Teams find thousands of old programs, forms and emails, and each one needs a decision to keep, rebuild or retire.
A sensible order is to audit what you use first, then clean the data, then rebuild the top programs by revenue, and only then switch over. Many teams find that the first audit removes 30 to 50 percent of assets. [Marrina to replace with your own audit figure from client work.] Keep the old platform live in parallel for a short, fixed period, and agree the cutover date in writing.
A trade-off to accept up front: a platform change costs you a quarter of reduced campaign speed. If your current platform scores well on your own criteria, fixing utilization is cheaper than moving.
Questions to Ask About Choosing A Marketing Automation Platform
- Which is better for enterprise, Marketo or HubSpot?
A. It depends on your CRM and complexity. Marketo Engage tends to suit large, multi-region programs with heavy customization, especially in Adobe environments. HubSpot tends to suit teams that value one connected CRM and faster time to launch. Test both against your own scripted scenarios. - Is Pardot the same as Marketing Cloud Account Engagement?
A. Yes. Salesforce renamed Pardot in April 2022. Many people still call it Pardot. - Is Eloqua being discontinued?
A. Oracle has not published an end-of-life date for Eloqua, according to a specialist consultancy. Oracle’s roadmap says it plans to add deeper AI to Eloqua. Check Oracle’s current roadmap in writing during your evaluation. - Does Eloqua have AI agents?
A. Eloqua has built-in generative AI features. Oracle’s newer role-based agents sit in Oracle Fusion Applications and Fusion Marketing. Ask Oracle which agent connections to Eloqua are live today. - Does Marketo have AI agents?
A. Adobe is adding agents through Adobe Journey Optimizer B2B Edition, which works with Marketo Engage and requires a Marketo license. Confirm current agent features and licensing with Adobe. - How much does HubSpot’s AI cost in 2026?
A. HubSpot charges through credits at about $10 per 1,000. Published rates put a Customer Agent resolution at about 50 credits. Plans include monthly allowances that don’t roll over. Verify current rates on HubSpot’s pricing page. - What did Gartner and Forrester say about B2B marketing automation in 2026?
A. Forrester’s Q1 2026 Wave scores 10 revenue marketing platforms on current offering, strategy and customer feedback. Gartner’s September 2026 Magic Quadrant covers 11 vendors and highlights integrated suites, AI agents and consumption pricing. - What is a revenue marketing platform?
A. Forrester defines it as an integrated system that unifies data, predicts high-value opportunities and runs personalized programs across the customer lifecycle. It goes beyond email and lead scoring. - How long does a marketing automation migration take?
A. It varies with asset count, integrations and data quality. Small instances can move in a few months. Large global instances often take two or more quarters. Ask any partner to base their estimate on an asset audit, not a guess. - Why do companies use so little of their marketing automation platform?
A. Gartner points to stack complexity and sprawl as the main obstacle. Weak data, unclear ownership and too many overlapping tools add to it. - Should we switch platforms or fix what we have?
A. Score your current platform on the same scorecard as the alternatives. If it passes on data fit, cost and skills, fix utilization first. Switch when the CRM changes, the cost model breaks, or the platform can’t model your buying groups. - Can one MAP replace our CDP or ABM tool?
A. Sometimes, but check the data model first. Suite vendors are bundling these pieces, and that can cut tool count. It can also raise your license total.
How Marrina Decisions Helps Enterprise Teams Choose, Migrate, and Get More From Their Marketing Automation Platform
Turning Platform Decisions Into Pipeline Performance, Not Shelf Spending
For most enterprise marketing teams, the harder problem is knowing whether any platform will actually close the utilization gap your organization already has. Most evaluation processes do not reach that level. They compare feature lists, attend vendor-run demos, and sign a contract before anyone has audited what the current instance actually contains.
That is where Marrina Decisions works.
We help enterprise organizations make platform decisions grounded in their own data, then execute migrations and modernization programs that deliver the utilization the investment was meant to produce.
Our work in this space includes:
- Auditing MAP instances to surface sprawl, gaps, and unused capability
- Designing buying-group frameworks aligned to modern B2B purchasing behavior
- Evaluating AI agent readiness, governance controls, and consumption cost exposure
- Building scorecards weighted to your CRM, skills, and total cost
- Managing sequenced migrations: audit first, clean data, then rebuild programs
- Connecting MAP activity to pipeline and revenue in reports sales accepts
The organizations getting the strongest return from their MAP investment are not the ones who selected the platform with the most impressive demo. They are the ones who understood their own utilization gap, fixed the data and governance underneath, and built programs matched to how their buying groups actually behave.
If your team is evaluating platforms, preparing for a migration, or questioning whether the current system can support buying-group orchestration and AI-assisted qualification, the right starting point is an honest audit of what you have today.
Contact Marrina Decisions to assess your current MAP environment and build a modernization plan designed for the buying environment your team is actually operating in.
